I was born in the Shetland Islands but have lived in Orkney for the most of my life. I am a fully qualified Orkney Tourist Guide, member of the Orkney Tourist Guides Association and affiliated to the Scottish Tourist Guides Association. In 2013, I became a qualified STGA accredited trainer in Orkney.
Orkney has a lot to offer: the ever-changing land and seascapes, archaeology, flora and fauna, our Norse heritage, and the importance of Scapa Flow during the two World wars.
My special interests include guided walks through the historic town of Kirkwall visiting our magnificent St Magnus Cathedral. Walks and excursions within the natural environment are also an interest e.g. coastal walks. I also enjoy history, particularly social history. It is enlightening to discover how we lived in the past and how we live today, still managing to retain a sense of identity and community.
As well as guiding larger groups, I am interested in guiding smaller, private groups, either as a walking group or as a step-on-guide in your own vehicle. If necessary, I can arrange transport with driver and join you as your personal guide.
It gives me great pleasure showing visitors around our wonderful islands. No matter what your interest may be, I would endeavour to make your holiday experience as memorable and enjoyable as possible.
