I live in the beautiful Island of Hoy, Orkney and I am a qualified Green Badge Orkney Tourist Guide and member of the Orkney (OTGA) and Scottish Tourist Guides Associations (STGA).
In the past Orkney was a favourite family holiday destination, but we fell so much in love with these amazing islands that we up sticks and moved to live here on a permanent basis.
I find all aspects of Orkney’s wonderful history (ancient and recent), sights, wildlife, scenery and unique way of life fascinating, and love to share this fascination with both locals and visitors alike.
It gives me the greatest pleasure to share my local knowledge of the Mainland and Hoy, from guided walks through the historic town of Kirkwall to rugged coastlines of Yesnaby and Birsay to the officially designated wilderness of Hoy; from the Stone Age sites of Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar, the Viking era, to the more recent WW1 & WW2 locations and events. From watching the abundance of birdlife, to seal spotting and even trying to catch a glimpse of our latest arrivals, the Sea Eagles.
