Enhance your Orkney experience with a qualified Orkney guide
A born and bred Orcadian, I sometimes need to be reminded how wonderful life in Orkney can be and guiding helps me achieve it. I love to instil a sense of wonder, awe and even surprise in my guests with tales from our distant and not so distant past.
We are lucky in having such a wealth of archaeological material in Orkney, but we also have a tremendous wealth of culture and history, all of which is just bursting to be told to the interested guest.
With degrees in Culture Studies of the Highlands and Islands and Interpretation: Management & Practice, I am continuing my education with Orkney & Shetland Studies, which includes our islands’ past, heritage, people and culture.
I am involved with the Orkney Heritage Society, Orkney Singers, Orkney Defence Interest Network, Holm Heritage Group and Orkney Storytelling Trust, and am always happy to speak to like-minded folk.
I acted as a Volunteer Historic Scotland Ranger for the first time during the summers of 2009 and 2010 and worked as a seasonal guide at historic Maeshowe during 2010.
I qualified as an STGA accredited Orkney Tourist Guide in 2004 and have been busy guiding part-time ever since.
